How Does Reiki Work With Animals?
All animals instinctively recognise and appreciate Reiki's ability to heal. They often quickly learn to seek it out on their own. Animals often respond more quickly to Reiki Healing than people do and positive results are usually seen in a relatively short period of time.
Reiki is an effective form of complementary animal healing and when used alongside veterinary treatments can accelerate the healing process, ease pain, and improve, or help to continue, the animal's quality of life.
Reiki heals the whole animal holistically and does not cause discomfort, stress or pain.
Which Animals Can Benefit From Animal Reiki Healing?
All animals can benefit from Reiki treatments.
For healthy animals, Reiki treatments help to maintain the state of health, enhancing peace and overall well-being. It can help to ease muscle tension, assist relaxation, and keep the animal in the peak of good health.
For animals that are ill, Reiki assists healing at the deepest levels and is a safe complement to conventional medicine, Chinese medicine, homeopathy, flower essences and all other forms of healing. Reiki also helps to reduce the side effects of other treatments. It is very effective in easing the pain of arthritis in older animals.
For animals which are terminally ill, Reiki is a highly effective yet gentle way to provide comfort, pain relief, alleviate anxiety and fear and to ease the transition from this life. Reiki healing can also provide support and help with grief for the animal's owner.
What To Expect From Animal Reiki Treatment
The treatment usually begins a short distance away from the animal rather than with hands on healing. This helps to build up trust and gives the animal the opportunity to feel the healing energy. Once the trust is given, the Reiki healer will start to touch the animal’s body in much the same way as on human beings. The animal decides how much Reiki they want.
Animals are more sensitive to energy than people and quickly understand its’ healing potential. During a treatment the animal may move closer to the Reiki healer or may choose to lie away from them. It is their choice and wherever they are they will still receive the benefit from Reiki Healing.
Through Animal Communication, very often I will pick up thoughts and feelings from the animal concerning any problems that it has, past or present, and this can be very helpful to the carer. It can assist with the bonding of animal and carer, and can sometimes be quite emotional but always very worthwhile.
Where Can Animal Reiki Be Given?
For horses, I like to suggest that a Reiki healing session is given in their own stable in peace and quiet, away from any noisy activity outside on the yard. However I can also treat horses in their field or paddock if necessary. I prefer horses not to be tied up for a healing session as this would remove their choice to move around as they wish during our healing time together. If the horse’s human carer wishes to be present, that is very welcome as this adds to the horse’s feelings of security during the treatment.
For cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and other domestic animals, I prefer to see them in their own homes if possible. A quiet room should be set aside for the animal’s healing session and again the animal’s human carer is welcome to be present.
Please Note:
The Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966 prohibits anyone other than a qualified veterinary surgeon from diagnosing ailments in animals. However the healing of animals by contact healing, by the laying of hands or distant healing is legal and Reiki comes within this description.
The Protection of Animals Act 1911 requires that if an animal clearly needs treatment from a veterinary surgeon the owner must obtain this.
