Indian Head Massage

The History Of Indian Head Massage

It is based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing system in India. Ayurvedic medicine is a holistic healing system, which combines natural therapies and encompasses mind, body and spirit. It strives to restore balance and inner harmony to the mind, body and spirit to improve the health of the individual.

The skill is handed down from generation to generation and members of the family often give and receive head massages. They discovered that the massage resulted in a feeling of relaxation and equilibrium, and that certain conditions such as headaches and insomnia were quickly resolved after a treatment.

What Are The Benefits?

How Is The Treatment Given?

An Indian head massage will last for around 30 minutes. If a client has a specific condition such as an aching shoulder which needs particular attention, it may take a little longer.

The client relaxes by sitting in a low-backed comfortable chair. Most people prefer to remain fully clothed other than removing their jumper, shirt or blouse. A towelling wrap is used over the upper body to keep the client warm.

The massage commences with the upper back and shoulders, then upper arms and neck, before moving on to the head and scalp itself. It ends with a facial massage.

This is a wonderful therapy much loved by many people. Clients have described it as a “blissful floating feeling” that remains with them afterwards for quite some time.
