What Is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a therapy which uses essential oils to help with a variety of health problems. Essential oils are obtained from different parts of flowers, fruits, leaves, barks and roots by steam distillation. Essential oils contain many chemical compounds which are responsible for their therapeutic effect.
Aromatherapy is usually given through massage from a therapist such as myself, but I can also make up inhalations, bath oils or creams for you to use at home. The aromatherapy oils can either have a direct effect upon a specific problem or can be used in a more holistic way to restore harmony and balance by influencing all levels of the body.
What Conditions Can Aromatherapy Treat?
Aromatherapy can help with a variety of health problems and is particularly helpful with stress related problems. Examples of other conditions that may be helped include: headaches, muscular aches and pains, PMT, menopause symptoms, digestive upsets, skin problems, insomnia. Aromatherapy has an overall therapeutic effect therefore you do not need to be unwell to benefit.
What Will Happen When I Come For A Treatment?
A detailed case history will be taken to make sure that I use the right oils for you personally. This will include questioning about your previous health , current well-being, symptoms you may have, as well as rule out any contra-indications to specific essential oils. This information remains completely private between you and I. An aromatherapy massage with the oils chosen will then follow; this can be a full body massage or just back, neck and shoulders, whichever you prefer. Rest assured your privacy will be respected throughout, you can leave your underclothes on, and you will be covered with towels to make sure you stay warm and comfortable.

Where there is a condition for which aromatherapy is not appropriate, referral to another health care practitioner will be discussed. All consultations are confidential. Please do not hesitate to ask for explanations of the proposed treatment at any time. Having taken a detailed case history during the first consultation subsequent appointments are likely to involve a brief evaluation of your progress before the treatment is provided.
How Long Does It Take?
It takes about an hour for a full body massage, half an hour for just back and legs. The first consultation takes a little longer because of the detailed case history that needs to be discussed.
